Why Chalk?

Gus will jokingly call it “instant strength.” It may not be that direct, but dusting your hands with chalk provides noticeable assistance with your grip on the barbell, pull up bar, or really any kind of equipment. A better grip means one less thing that could cause a missed lift.
It also helps with cleaner callous formation, keeping sweaty palms dry, or even drawing a line on the platform if needed because it washes off easily.
At Gus’s Barbell Club we provide and encourage the use of chalk. Many gyms do not allow it much less provide it. Usually because they don’t want to mop up any messes on the floor nor brush and oil their barbells. So chalk is yet another barometer of whether your gym prizes your training results or not.
